Overview:

The tour begins in Lisbon and heads to Alcobaça, home to the Monastery of Santa Maria de Alcobaça, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1989. Built in 1178 by order of King Afonso Henriques and occupied by monks in 1223, it is one of the best-preserved Cistercian monasteries. Inside are the tombs of King Pedro and Inês de Castro, symbols of a tragic love story. Next, we travel to Óbidos, passing through stunning landscapes of western Portugal. With the help of an audioguide, visitors can explore the village’s historic sites, including churches, medieval walls, and the castle, or enjoy a walk along its charming streets lined with flower-adorned houses. Founded by the Celts in 308 BC and later integrated into the Roman city of Eburobrittium, Óbidos was successively occupied by barbarians and Moors until it was conquered by King Afonso Henriques. In the 18th century, it remained a royal retreat, notably for King John V, who stayed there for health treatments.
